Joel is involved in various research projects related to renewable energy, including

• an international study of renewable energy policy, industries and firms with collaborators across three universities — with a focus on photovoltaic (PV) energy;
• a study of the development of California’s renewable energy industry, particularly PV, solar thermal and wind;
• efforts to develop a workforce for California PV companies, as founding director of the SJSU Solar Workforce project; and
• the development of the biofuels industry, technology and infrastructure.

He also comments on PV, solar, wind and other renewable energy topics on his Cleantech Business blog.
